The tractor toolbox
If a wearing part cannot be changed with what is already in the toolbox, the design goes back. Bolted flanges rather than welded ones, shear bolts rather than hydraulic resets, and standard spanner sizes throughout.
The local shop
Every belt, seal and bearing is a standard section stocked in any town in Punjab. A proprietary part is a two-day wait, and a two-day wait in a fourteen-day window is a lost season.
The printed diagram
Exploded parts diagrams are in the manual that ships with the machine rather than on a dealer system. A farmer holding the number can order from anybody, including somebody who is not us.

Judged in fourteen days, not over ten years
Farm equipment is not judged over its life; it is judged in a fourteen-day window when the ground is right, and a machine that stops for three of those days has failed however well it performed in the other eleven months. So the design starts from the parts that wear — tines, bearings, blades, seals — and asks whether a farmer can change them in a field with the tools that are in the tractor toolbox.

Same-day parts
Ordered before three, dispatched the same day, anywhere in Punjab and Haryana. During the two sowing windows the desk runs seven days, because that is when a part being two days away actually costs somebody a crop.
A phone that a person answers
The parts desk is three people who have all worked in the shop. They will identify a part from a photograph and a serial number, and will tell you when a cheaper generic will do.
Field service in the window
Two vans out during sowing and harvest. It is not free and it is not fast enough to promise, so we say four to twenty-four hours rather than a number we would miss.
We will sell you the diagram
And the part number, whether or not you buy the part from us. A farmer able to order from a local shop at nine at night is a farmer whose season is not our margin decision.

Tell us the tractor and the acreage rather than the implement — about a third of enquiries end with us recommending something smaller and cheaper than the one they asked about, because the tractor will not pull the other properly.

Of us and of anybody else you are considering. It is the specification that decides what an implement is worth in year ten, and it is the one nobody puts in a brochure.
